Let me appologise up front if this sounds totaly stupid but here it is, could I use propane and air from my compressor, not to weld but to heat the metal to work it into shape, if i can what torch should i use.
You can use air for heating with propane, may need slightly higher pressure on account of the N2 present...
Better off getting a "roofing torch" though unless you need high pressure...
You'll only get a bigger flame if you add more gas
yes, its the principles of a brazing half, the modern non coal fired forges worked on compressed air and propane, been a hell of allot of years (collage) since I used one, last thing I bashed out in a forge was some G clamps......
I remember using those as well, I'd hate to think what HSE would say about them nowadays.......
PS: I also remember there being an butlers sink covered with a piece of plywood with some diluted acid in used for cleaning copper or somthing....arr those were truely the days before H&S....
As mentioned brazing hearths use propane and air - but they require a large volume of low pressure air. I think you would need a high volume regulator to be able to use your compressor and obviously the right torch. These torches give a nice soft flame for heating and brazing and can bring steel to forging temperature. Flamefast make complete brazing hearths which can be found second hand. W/A
hi vin its that old the label gave the pressures for town gas. i use propane with a adjustable regulator. just a thought wouldn't a cutting torch do. after all its the jet of oxygen that dose the cutting after the steel has been heated by the preheat flame.you should be able to get a decent flame with propane & compressed air
