Project idea - advise please

Hi,

I have a few honda ATC 70's trikes, and want to build some sort of stacker for them, looking for some design ideas.

One is to use a high lift jack on both ends of a frame, but that will be expensive for the jacks and possibley awkward to get the bottom trike out.

Other is to make a stand similar to an engine crane with a block and tackle and lift a cradle holding one trike and wheel the other one in on the floor below.

It is going into a corner so will only have access from two sides (front and side).

Anyone got any other ideas? Or refinements to my first thoughts? Please post up.

Hi,

how about ramps up onto a flat ledge?

The top trike could be winched up, or driven under it's own power if you fancy it!

Then you remove the ramps and roll the lower trike in place.

I assume the top deck would only be 3.5 - 4 feet high?

with it being a trike, it would need three ramps, which is to much of a pain and I have a lack of room round it, hence the vertical lift idea.

Perhaps a winch, pulleys and sling - if you've got the appropiate ceiling location to hang from?

Maybe a some type of scissor lift would work.

Copy this, only instead of having it floor standing, fix the upright column on standoffs to the wall giving clear floor access.
It just lifts by dint of a nut you rotate with a drill or whatever, so you could easily rig up a perm electric motor to spin it up and down. Sliding column can be two pieces of suitably sized box section to telescope into each other, then fab up forks to suit your quad.

Great reply mate! Exactly what I was looking for. Great idea to use a threaded bar, and it answers my concerns over smooth running (rollers).

Looks a bit complicated, but I'm sure I can simplify it down and copy it well enough to work ok.

I am swaying more towards this idea now, but the cealing isn't secure enough for this approach, so I am thinking of a wall mounted plate with arm and cross brace. What dimension steel should I be looking at to lift a 100kg (approx) trike?

Also thinking of using a car trailer hand winch which I will mount off the main plate on a 2nd arm for clearence of the wall.

Anyone spot a flaw before I start drafting ideas?

Most of them wenches only pull one-way and then just a released : I doubt if you want your bikes to drop that fast

If you took a couple Roller jigs for sliding doors and attach them vertically to the wall then attach a frame to the rollers it should slide up and down pretty easy. Just thinking outside the box you shouldn't have got me started
