Project - Gilera Stalker

Well, I've laid on the sofa for the past 18 months and I've been getting twitchy! Started to learn welding (TIG) at college, one evening a week but that hardly fills my days......

I spotted a moped being offered on FreeCycle and actually got it, something that doesn't happen too often with me (my Mum does far better)!

The guy told me that his son had blown a hole in the piston but it turns out the crank bearing is seized.

I've got to pull the thing to bits and thought I might be able to practice some welding and metal work on it as the plastic shell is pretty bashed up and faded.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do to make this little 50cc moped look cool and practice my newly acquired hobby of TIG welding?

It's a 2004 Stalker but don't know any more as I'm awaiting the replacement logbook.

Ah, I saw Gilera and just thought old ! Mine is a 1976 Enduro, slightly different thing !

I wouldn't let myself loose on something that precious at this stage of the game! It doesn't matter if I mess this thing up, although I reckon it should go all right as there is enough information between my Haynes manual and the internet.

If this is a successful re-build and my back copes, maybe I'll make the next project more exciting. I've always wanted a Landrover County, so maybe do one of those up

Had one brand new in 75 very rare, most what you seen were the trail or road ones.
Horrible pedals. Putting two and two together has yours got the plastic red mudguards rather than silver steels?

They came with pressed steel mudguards painted silver.
Had it from West Brom sold it when i came 16.

tbh, the skys the limit to modifying it. I quite like the look of a bobber will you be building it to sell on or keep as a toy?

That's pretty cool. Not sure I could get away with that though, unless I rebuild the frame, which is not likely with my current skills and workshop!
