It will be interesting to see what they do to reduce the weight, I'm due to start mine soon after the racecars done, maybe I can borrow some ideas.

They've stripped it and got the weight down to 4800kgs, they were aiming for 4200 iirc. More 'shaving' to come I think.

that's a big LWB box on a 7.5tonner don't think they will get much more weight off that. they also weighted it without back doors and side door
a short wheelbase flatbed you used to get 4 ton payload just in the 80s with a ford cargo with 4 pot motor

I think mines just under 5 ton with 2 people and a full tank of fuel, but I can get rid of the cantilever tail lift and beaver tail inside the body with a lift up door , I'm thinking of using all aluminium cost permitting.

I didn't but I couldn't think of anything more suitable for what they were doing.

If i was doing the job i would have stretched the daf chassis and put the body on to that, much less work and you would end up with a newer truck,
But i suppose it wouldn't do to all think the same.

There was a slightly worrying reference to its chequered history.

Stolen/recovered, confiscated vehicle used in criminal activity, HMRC confiscated vehicle caught running on red or something else that prevents UK registration?

Last time I browsed that site selling ex MoD stuff there were several vehicles with non EU emissions standards that could not be UK registered, some of which were RHD. A 2 litre Ingenium petrol XJ351 was the one that leapt out at me.

There was once a LR Discovery 4 with delivery miles, it was RHD with strict warning it cannot be registered in UK.

But if it wouldn't meet EU emissions standards, isn't that largely down to the engine? And if the BOM folks transplant that engine then presumably they'd be transferring the emissions failings

I think it only needs to meet the standards of the year the truck was built. That new engine will exceed whatever standards were applicable to the Cargo.
