Evening all, this is my first post on the forum so apologies is its in the wrong place etc!
So ill try to keep it short, im 19, and am currently doing an apprenticeship in Welding and fab, and im working with a company that dabbles in different bit but our main area is making custom gates and railings.
I've still got two years left of my apprenticeship and i absolutley love welding and what im doing and long term i would love to progress with a carreer in welding, bit i dont know the best way to go about this.
I do enjoy where im working at the moment however long term i think i want to move onto something that offers more challenging work, something better financially and generally something abit more exciting. Am i in the completley wrong job? Dont get me wrong im doing a lot of welding and learning lots of other skills along the way however it seems like the welding im doing is very particular and i feel like im only really being trained to weld railings and gates and not a lot else. Is it a case of 'welding is welding' and any experience is good experience? or if i go for another welding job in the future that offers more and the experience i have is welding railings and a bog standard apprenticeship qualification, am i going to be laughed out of the office?
I know im being very broad because even i dont acctually know what exactly i want to doin the long run because i dont know what offers the best challanges, money, opurtunities etc, so if anyone could shed a bit of light on different paths you can take in welding that would be great as well!
So yeah, to sum it up, im basically asking:
- Am i going to get good experiece in my current job
-If not should i get out and look at other welding jobs, if so,what?
- How best do i gain experience and make myself stand out from the crowd
- And what are some interesting jobs based around welding that i could look into?
Sorry about writing an essay haha, any help appreciated!
