progress 1 drill quill lock ???

does anyone here with a Elliott progress no1 have the measurements of a picture of the quill lock ?
the bit im after is the two bits of black metal that go above the chuck with a chrome handle on.
like the one for the table collar lock.

I will try and see if I can get one made up for my drill, as this is the only thing missing from mine.
if I can get the exact diameter of the metal and a rough idea of the angle that needs to be cut
I might be able to find someone and get something done.
or if someone here can do it and give me a price ?

I probably wont ever use it, but would be nice to have it all complete.

ive looked on fleabay and a few places but never see any spares.

I have a Progress 2G, I suspect the quill lock will be the same on both drills, the angle that needs to be cut is more like a scallop, the same radius
as the actual quill, when the two halves are sawn apart this is sufficient to do the clamping, one half is drilled right through, the other is drilled and tapped.
The handle which should have a slight bend in it is threaded at each end,, one end to accept a ball handle, the other to fit the threaded half of the clamp.
I think the chances of finding a ready made spare is rather remote, it should not cost a great deal to have one made.
It is nice to have machines complete, have you thought of contacting Tony Griffiths at Lathes UK?

I have not contacted anyone yet, and I think lathes uk would be far too expensive going by some stuff ive seen from there.

your 2g quill lock is exact same part number as what I need, lots of bits on the no 1 and 2 g are the same.
on the main pillar lock and the table collar the locking pins are not scalloped, just a straight angle cut.
Maybe the quil is a bit more delicate and needs the scalloped ends. ???

do you know the diameter of the pins ?

The pins on my Progress 2GS are 874 thou (so 7/8"). The ends are just straight cut at an angle as mentioned. i can measure the angle (roughly) if you need that?

that would be good if you can please graham. and possibly the length of each one please.
then I can see about getting some knocked up somewhere.

They are both 1 and 3/16" long. The angled section is 1/2" long and is 20 degrees from the parallel sides of the pins. I hope that gives you what you need? I am out and about tomorrow but can take more measurements on Thursday if needed.
