Problem with clarke compressor

i came back to the workshop to find one of the air filters had been knocked off the compressor, without realising this had happened ( ) they had carried on using it. Anyway, i noticed that the cylinder that the filter was missing from was very hot, and the compressor itself was struggling to keep up with the plasma.

My question to the collective is will the lack of filter result in loss of efficiency and cause it to run hot, or has running it without a filter caused internal damage resulting in those symptoms? The compressor is situated in a reasonably clean air environment, well away from the debris and dust produced by the plasma.

the filters shold not matter too much to the operation and unless some debris has been ingested then its should not run any hotter than the other one, unless your air flow is compromised

it whip the head off and shech the bores.

Have you checked the oil for metal contamination also?

The Aluminum high speed pumps do run hot..probably never noticed before the filter problem

Its a twin pot, the side without the filter is noticebly hotter. Cant think whhy no filter would make any difference though , in the short term at least.

I would hazard a guess by saying its pumping more air with no filter..is the other filter completely clean? also normally twin pumps have different bore sizes and this could have a bearing on air being pumped.
