I’m a bit confused by a problem I’ve encountered with my Clarke 135TE. Any help gratefully received.
I didn’t have a camera to hand so will have to try and explain instead. Was doing some plug welds last night the few came out well with good penetration. But then when I struck an arc I got a buzzing hum sound rather than the usual sizzling noise that I was expecting. When I stopped there was no sign that any of the filler wire had deposited onto the parent metal.
I’ve done what I would perceive to be the usual checks: wire feed is ok with no bird’s nesting, there is plenty of gas and I haven’t mistakenly changed the power setting (had it set to 1 & Min so should be about 30A).
I then tried to lay some welds on a piece of 2mm mild and no matter what power setting I was using it wouldn’t do a decent weld. The area around the attempted weld was covered in black soot.
I really confused now; has my welder got a problem or am I just having a special moment?!? Does this look like a trip back to Machine Mart or the Clarke service centre?
Cheers, reno
