Private reg plate?

Looking for one for a prezzie, thought I'd found perfect reg, until I clicked buy and this came up>>>

"NOTE: The number plate you are about to buy can be transferred onto any vehicle first registered on or after 1st March 2003"

Can anyone explain the above statement please? Vehicle reg is meant for is year 2000.

you cannot put a newer plate on an older vehicle
for example you could not put a 09 plate on a 1973 ford escort.
the plate you have would me an 03 plate and cannot be put on an older vehicle.

before buying off one of the transfer websites, try DVLA directly. Often you can buy better numbers from them a lot cheaper, and it only takes a trip to your local VRO to get it sorted (no postin docs off to get it changed).

i was working in a cherished numberplate dealers in billingham who operate of the internet i was doing wiring work. the crafty sods advertise plates that they dont own just get the list from dvla.when a punter buys at inflated price of them they just buy them from dvla so theres no outlay

when I took my car for it's inspection before I put it on the road, the DVLA wanted to charge me £130 to "keep" my personal no. (came with the donor vehicle). I said no, just issue an age related one, I would have prefered this anyway. when the paperwork came back it was still on the same number!.

From your posts, purchasing plates looks a dodgy business over the net. DVLA didn't have what I was looking for, I'll keep searching and, remain wary and vigilant!!

The new 10 registrations are out now. You can buy on retention and keep it till you can afford a car new enough to put it on

Thats gone up in price recently - cheaper to put a plate on a car than put it on retention so sod buying a 10 plate and keeping it on retention for 10 years till I can afford a 10 car

It's gone up a LOT!
Number 2 son bought CO51 CAM from DVLA (Cosic A. M., his initials) but has a 1997 car, so he put it on his mum's 52 plate car until such time as he eventually gets a younger car.

Bought himself a motorcycle (his mum has just resumed talking to him).
Keeps threatening to help number 3 son and I re-rebuild the Twink into a naturally aspirated 140 bhp version as the old turbo version ate halfshafts and the LT77 died of fright.
