printer??

I'm looking a printer that uses black ink but no colour.
just want it for printing letters or sermons etc.
my current printer uses colour but don't need it .
try as I might I cannot find any that is suitable for home use.
the ones I can see are for offices etc.
does anyone know of any??

Yup, mono laser.
Cheap to run and rapid print speed.
Mine probably takes up more desk space than some but that's offset by the advantages of being able to load a whole ream of a4 in one slot plus envelopes into another so I can pile crap up in front of it as I only need to access the paper trays a couple of times a year!

Or, look for a normal printer that has a dedicated slot for a black ink cartridge.
Plenty of those about, designed to use the black for documents to save the colour cartridges.
The only issue I found with this is the software nags you that the colour ink is low or dry etc. I have a large format printer that I only use black in and that was a nightmare as it tried to self test the colour output and self clean etc.
I did manage to get around it by installing a generic driver or something but I remember it being a long night to get it working hence that printer is still running only on an XP computer...

Mono laser, we have a Samsung, cheap to buy, a little pricey on toner but lots less than the old inkjet!

I dont think I’ve ever seen a black only inkjet but search for mono laser printer will throw up results, we had a Samsung one for years that worked brilliantly, laser printers are not great for photo printing but great for documents

HP LaserJet M110we seems about the cheapest at £89.99. On John Lewis' site thay say you can get an extra £20 cashback via the manufacturer post purchase. Has wireless so you do not need to plug into it.

Mono laser printers are good for homemade pcbs… for those that do electronics..

I have a couple of HP lasers and can't recommend them for normal use. On the HP mono, nearly every toner cartridge has been faulty. Supposedly genuine HP cartridges. most seem to streak the paper with toner. Can't be the printer as the odd cartridge has been OK. Toner cartridges last a long time but are expensive. Non genuine cartridges for inkjets are cheap and work fine, stick with the inkjet.

What ever you buy - make sure it is not HP - it will be great until you have to change the cartridge - anti Christs in plastic.....

My Epson A3 printer won't print black unless there is also a operable colour cartridge in it. Even when set to black only it tells me I need a colour cartridge. Bloody annoying!

For the amount of printing I do it's been sat gathering dust for a year or so now, I just send things to my sister to print.

Many years ago I actually threw a Lexmark printer/scanner out of the bedroom window. Seriously, it was so infuriatingly infuriating. About once a month it would just decide not to print. Nothing, nada, no response, no reaction. Usually when I was printing boarding passes and flight details to fly out to work the next day.....

Totally delete printer, reinstall, and all would be well.

Until it caught me on a bad day.....

Printers are my pet hate with computer type things, they simply don't play fair.

Someone tried to give me a laser printer today.

I turned them down, as I didn't like the idea of loosing 4 cubic feet of space on somthing that toner coats £80 a hit for!

For work stuff (the screen printing) I have a multi colour inkjet which, until last week, had all the channels filled with black ink. (I bought it new and filled it all with black 10 mins after taking it out the box)

We've had a Brother HL-L2350DW mono laser printer for three or four years, never had any problem with it. Can go three or four months without use and fires up straight away. Had Lexmark and two Epson inkjets in the past, every print job was an unknown as to what the fault was going to be.

I had a good run for years out of small Brother lasers (5150 model,as I recall. The cartridge lasts well, and ther are aftermarket replacements and refills. Don't touch inkjets.
I needed to do A3 colour in the office. After a couple of expensive to run Brother inkjets, I bought a heavy HP which supposedly had a new drum but doesn't. When my scanner died, I bought an ex lease office printer scanner with multi paper trays etc. Best answer if you have the space. They are just about free after a life j the corporate world, and will last forever.

im still on my 2nd printer and ive hamered it

hp printer was my first until the expensive catridges was needed and then an epson r300 its had many sevices run through as i also use the ciss system on it

im still printing and i can print cd/dvd disks as well

my other 2 brand new ones can also print cd/dvds as ive never used them

How do you find the Epson heads for blocking / cleaning? Do you have to feed cleaner through the setup?
I assume you have a waste ink resetter also?

I have an Epson, as I have to (they have different head design to most others) but I hate the way they block, then Epson's waste ink counter that is designed to obsolete printers as it's not intended to be consumer resettable. My waste counter is on the firmware of the printer rather than the tank, but there are 3rd party utilities that charge you for the rest code. The ciss setup means cleaning fluids are hard, as it's a factory ciss (ecotank) so I can't just swap in a cart full of cleaner.
