What would you lot recommend for a good primer/undercoat to go over old lead paint
I have an old victorian mangle given to me to restore, well sort of (this is a low cost job),now the problem is, it's coated in lead paint,or seems to be,well it is dated roughly 1830's,so my gamble it is.
Now i'd like to get as much off as pos, which isn't easy, the industrial paint stripper i have isn't or hardly touching it at all(paramose AS10)
Ok for say the top layer, but the deep embedded paint,ie the pitted, nooks and cranny areas isn't shifting,it's kind of a rough cast iron,if you get me.
Yes i know getting it blasted would be the ideal situation, but theres a 4 week wait
,and the price i got back is crazy,no pocket money to be earned from it.
So,as per title,a decent primer undercoat that'll not lift from lead paint,i remember years back i painted something similar with ordinary oil based primer and within 2 weeks it lifted, not wanting to have that happen again of course, its to be brushed on,then a top coat after that( standard black gloss perhaps)
Would a coat of some etch primer be ok,or would i get away with an all-in-one ie hammerite etc be enough
Your thoughts please cheers
