Primer for aluminium parts

Hi all,

The outer steering column on the car I am restoring is aluminium and the paint on it has has a hard life. I would usually just rattle can upol etch 8 and some tough black over the top but I am wondering if there is anything a bit harder wearing I can use or should I just rattle can like above with some lacquer on top?

I don’t have the facilities to spray iso or an oven but I have been spraying jotun 87 and cellulose when reasonable results so far.

Lechler epoxy is epoxy rather than isocyanate (do make sure for yourself in case I'm wrong)

You can still do yourself damage with it, but sensible, non air fed, will also protect you.

yeah epoxy primer is about as tough as it gets

Thanks guys, will the epoxy stick to the aluminium or do I need something on first?

sticks well , i would abrade it with 180 before hand

Ok thanks again, I only have jotun 87 epoxy at the moment but I am getting some lechler to do the exterior of the car so I will paint it then!

jotun would be fine if you thin it down
