U r so helpful guys so I got another question for all of you. Is anyone know agency or company who hot a lot tig job to do and if I am self employed I can get some project of them and keep me busy? I don't like waste time. Cheers for that.

If you look you'll find wire consumption tables, electrode stub loss corrections etc in some of the google hits. Doubt you'll find anything on leccy units as there's waaaaaay too many variables- inverter versus transformer with and without power factor correction for example are gonna make a difference both idling and in use

You could measure the wattage input to your welder and factor that into the equation but I think you would need to be welding for ages for it to make any real effect in your leccy.

work out what your workshop costs you to run is the first step.

i used to be a busy idiot doing littel dds and sods jobs a lot on the weekend. they just arnt worth doing

i got rid of most of that work by charging more much more me time and when i am working on the weeken it's worth doing and useing my kit. i charge it hourly or by part day.

if they some grumbel a lot but IMO i can just as easy go into work and do overtime useing there kit. so if i'm useing my kit and materials i want to be be makeing enough extra t make it worth it

Yeah and welders use plenty of other power tools too. As Danny said it's one of the many costs of running a workshop. Tally 'em all up and you can work out how much it costs just to open the doors per week, day, hour etc

I dont do paid welding, but repair work in another field...

You have to remember, on a small job, all the additional fixed costs.

For me, these include -

talking to the customer
unpacking the job
(doing the repair)
testing the repair
repacking the job
printing out the return address
working out the postage
invoicing (talking to the customer again)
processing the payment
taking the job to the post office


there's 10 things on that list, and only one of them is doing the repair!

Sure, its a different job, but i cant charge 1/4 hour for a tiny job, and then suffer all the rest myself.

I generally charge 1st whole hour, for any job, and then 1/2 hour chunks thereafter.

I should probably mark-up parts, but i dont. I think i should and i would advise anyone else to, but still, i, personally, dont...

I always marked up costs of materials and consumables.
Your hourly rate is your wage, your tokens to put behind the bar. The extra money I made on mark up after all my overheads and costs had come out was my little bit of profit.
Every outfit needs to make one,
I certainly did not want to use my beer tokens to replace the power tools when they packed up.
