I’ve seen a few threads on here about this and quite a few mixed opinions and thought I’d ask opinions for myself.
Basically I’ve got my 73’ Beetle 1303 shell that I sprayed a few years ago in Cellulose paint and used a hard wearing paint underneath. At the time I had limited knowledge and wasn’t really happy with how I’d done things.
Within the last year I invested in a rotisserie jig and decided to redo a lot of the bodywork so I’m taking it back to bare metal again. I’ve started slowly stripping the paint back using Starchem stripper and cleaning flap discs but it’s obviously a slow process and also not easy in some places as too awkward to get a grinder in. Also tiring on the hands using grinders for long periods and sanding my hand etc.
Recently I’d considered getting it media blasted, but the quotes I’ve had for someone to do this, just to do the shell (excluding the bonnet and doors as don’t need to do them) is really out of my budget.
My air compressor is only a 25litre SIP unit which isn’t really man enough to do sandblasting.
So I started looking at the wet blasting attachments you can get for a pressure washer. My pressure washer is a Nilfisk 120bar washer, which is approx 440l/h according to the spec sheet.
Most people have said it’s obviously , which I was going to put some tarpaulin down under the shell on my jig on my gravel driveway when I do it.
The other thing is people have said about flash rusting due to the water, but wondered if I dried the areas as much as I could with a blowgun from my compressor, then sprayed the panels/areas after with a rust inhibitor?
Opinions and experiences are appreciated
