Pressure washer lance

Its doing my head in everytime i use it...the tip keeps getting blocked with something and its not the water supply so i can only asume the wand has rust on the inside...Whats the score lads,do i need to buy a new one or how the hell can you de-scale these things on the inside to remove the rust...i persume when new they must be galvanised to stop this

Does it go from One pressure jet to the gentle spray? but a few twist of the end of the lance an it is back to normal?

No mate its the standed industrial type lance

I had an old diesel powered pressure washer years ago, it did a similar thing. But mine was down to a small amount of rubbish in the pump, striped it down. All was good.
Were it came from I id not find out.

I run my steamer for a minute with no nozzle on the lance to blow the crud out after a long sleep as otherwise the tip gets blocked solid with rust flakes like you mention and I have to dig them out with a drill bit at first then blow through the last bits they get so packed in. Once I've done that the first time its good for another x months. I never paid much attention where the flakes came from but I guess theyre inside the lance or the reinforced by metal steel tube?
When I use it every few days it doesnt need this routine as the rust doesnt have time to build up and cause a issue.

Possibly bits flaking off the inside of the hose, or the boiler tube if it's a hot wash one. As the trigger mechanism was worn I've just changed the lance and nozzle on my Karcher MPDS (Military steam cleaner and nuclear decontamination unit) and was pleasantly surprised how relatively cheap it was - this is the one I bought:

How do ya know its blocked? can ya blow air through the lance itself?

Them spiders get everywhere.

Does water get thrusted out without the hose attached? sometimes when the flow of water is being restricted mine makes a thrumping sound.

Brandnew hose so must be the inside of the lance...might get my inspection camera down there and take a peek.

I don't think these are coated on the inside, but most of the fittings that are used in a pressure washer will be steel and after a time will all rust. The rust will then end up at the nozzle at some point.

ive got hot water washer u can clean the heat exchanger and lance out with acid thats what the repair-firm told me they use, every winter i run anifreeze through mine then in spring take the nozzle off and run fresh water through it its suprising how much crap comes out of it then i refit the jet and away we go

The real cheap ones use steel but I don't think its rust as the force of the jet will dispense of the rusted walls of the jet.
some are galvanised some are aluminium and the better ones are brass.

My aldi jobby(made for aldi by Karcher) is 8 years old and had some use but its never blocked the jet/s,don't know what material is though.
