Pressure testing a head

can anyone recommend a place to get a head pressure tested please?
Local would be good I am in Bromley.

Also what kind of costs are involved.

I just brought a second hand head for my L200 as well as a new head the new head is ok but no as well made as the second hand genuine head. Just deciding on what one to use really.

@123hotchef check they will do it hot and cold that is the best way to do them as the hot test opens the cracks if there is any ware as cold won't

From memory You can get a brand new one from Milner 4x4 for about 260 quid

Thats the price of a bare head fully built up its around £470.00

Its normally the start of the end when a diesel engine needs a new head, in most cases the engine has been fried , pistons scuffed, bores scratched and the top of the block warped. Bolting a new head on an engine like this rarely turns out well. In most cases the cause is never investigated and they fail again.

@8ob that depends on the head material compared to the block in the case of the l200 they can be prone to doing heads head gaskets due to being a alloy head on a cast block so they will not stand running hot for any length of time and tend to only withstand so many hot to cold cycles before the alloy head cracks internally it's the nature of the beast I have now done in excess of a 100 000 miles with mine engine no 1 did a head at 130 000 miles due to the radiator fins been particularly blocked that engine was removed @ 140 000 miles for piece of mind and is sat as a spare engine no 2 did a head at 80 000 miles due to 3 jambed thermostats mine is different to a lot nowadays as it has a uprated cooling system with a second radiator and fans on a lower temp switch mine can work hard at times towing and goes over the weighbridge at + 300 kg from standard weight

I paid £40 for this one fully buit up second hand suppose to be a good head but for piece of mind I want to get it checked it looks ok but u never can tell.

New built up heads are £350 ish

Cheers for that. Someone is comeing to look at my old truck, think if they pay the asking price they can have there choice of spares and clutter and skippy gets the rest

4D56/4D56T heads? Hmmmmm, I may be interested in L200 parts

“Apparently”, through hearsay not experience, the heads marketed as new are extremely poor from the likes of Milner and Mitzy Bitz, personally haven’t needed one..YET!

they are poor I have a brand new one and a second hand genuine one sitting side by side on my bench the new one is poor quality in comparison

well my truck and a large proportion of the clutter has gone probaly be next seen in syria with a machene gun on the back of it broken down.

yes 4d56T parts, truck went with a spare head and injection pump but there are 3x 4d56T engines here still somewhere and they did all run ( badly ) one of them smoked and was gutless, another ratteled and had next to no oil pressure, and last one had wobbely frount pully and was the final straw. the truck the smokey gutless engine came from now has a 4.2 rover v8 ( and a broken gearbox ) wobbley pully one has quite a lot of 300 tdi disco in it but its about rotted out now
