Pressure gauge to go on a spray gun inlet

I am thinking of getting a pressure gauge to go on my LVLP spray gun inlet. A couple of years ago I was given a Machinemart one as a present but the gauge lens melted when it came into contact with celly thinners!

I have always assumed such a gauge would improve my spraying as I currently guess the pressure loss between my wall mounted gauge and the gun.

Does anyone have such a gauge they would recommend?

is there realy a need for one it looks a bit restrictive for movement fitted on the bottom of a gun . i just set the pressure at regulator on tank fill the gun and do a test spray on the obligatory 1 gallon oil can and away u go

hi Sparky Depends how accurate you want to be, when you use the one at the tank, you will get quite a drop across the hose at the gun, The trouble with your method is, there is a bit of a range where the spray pattern is right but if the pressure is too high you get more over spray and atomised particles in the air, waste of paint and unnecessary mess. Required accuracy can only be donw with the gauge at the gun, I have the gauge and a water trap at the gun, doesn't really get in the way, you don't notice it after a while.

All they are is a spool with a hole drilled through it and you adjust the flow by turning the hole around and restricting the flow like that, now you could make up a T piece with a pressure gauge and a quick connector on, attach to the bottom of the gun and adjust your airflow on the wall mounted regulator to give you the desired pressure at the gun then lock it in place, then remove the T piece and away you go.

I too have a Machine Mart one with a cloudy face due to cellulose thinners!

I replaced the MM one with a home made one. Because I never use the restrictor feature I got some brass bar and got a take off made. I bought the gauge from RS Components.

I put couplings on it so that I can set the gun up then take it off for the reason brightspark noted.

I find that adding an airline swivel fitting greatly improves usability
