Right, i have a thread going in the projects section regarding wheel arch repair, well tbh its going to be a tad more than just a wheel arch being a 16 year old Renault.

So today i thought id better have a practise go as I havent touched a welder in 20 years.

The welder is a Cebora Boxer 155 or something.
My results so far for critique.

Front.

Now ive numbered them to show my starting point, so:-

No.1 Power on 3, wire feed 4
No.2 Power on 2, wire feed 4
No.3 Power on 1, wire feed 3
Rear.

So now ive got power on 1 and the penetration still seems a tad too much im guessing i need to turn wire feed down even more or move trigger quicker?

So any comments and/ or suggestions please before i start the real thing.

The welds do look hot and saggy from the back, are they done overhead in spray transfer?

How thin is the metal?

#3 looks good. #2 ok, probably could move a bit faster.

I take it that is 1mm or so steel?

You seem to have a good feel for torch speed. Running beads down a sheet is not that great for settings. It will be different when you do some seams.

Try some butt joints to get the settings.

im having a pig of a job at the mo blowing holes grrrr.

Welder set at min amp wire speed low and gas turned turned too.
Using argonlight and an off cut from a sill section repair panel everything cleaned up and good earth.

Also using a blue flap disc im having a mare of a job not grinding back too far.

As this first panel is hidden by back bumper im think im gonna be rough grinding it then making it up with stonechip and body coat

Car body work is always hard.very thin.and you never know exacting how thick it is.do 10mm at a time leave a couple of seconds to cool and go again.

It also stops thing distorting as much

Yes it does thanks, i think though due tht enature of not being able to do a run the thin metal method might be in order
