Started working on a powerwall project
Have got my hands on some ev batteries and an inverter charger

spent today sorting bus bar and will add a battery management system tomorrow and get them balanced

Oh that sounds interesting, let us know in detail as the work progresses, I plan on doing similar in the next year or two.

Will do hopefully have the BMS in and talking to the pc tomorrow have to find a Windows pc

as used Linux for so long no longer have one

I was given a solar set up as a bonus from work
I had to go on a course to install them on a domestic roof even though we installed over 5000 panels on TA reserves barracks all over the northwest,
I'm not the company's mcs approved installer so left it up to company's electrical engineer to register,
Long story , I've 4kv sat on my roof for the last two years switched off
now both have left , muppets
Need to go off grid with a battery set up

I've always wondered with solar PV, can you get a 3 phase inverter?

3 phase is possible with 3 inverters

A VFD inverter will give you 3-phase for a machine (or a couple if it's modern and has parameter sets) - what's the PV / battery voltage, high enough to plug into a VFD DC bus?

I wanted to be off grid with a 3phase set up and basically was told don't borther ...
by the time u bought all of the extra panels to drive the extra batteries and all the electronic extra's to make it work.....
for the same money I'd get 10 years electric off the mains........
how true it is I just dont know but sounds about right........

my list of use......3hp on the ramp 5-6hp compressor (these are the two that will cause problems if using the ramp and the comp switches on or even the other stuff, 2 together creates a real problem/load).... 3hp lathe and mill, 3ph 225 stick, 480 stick......
plus plus etc.......
the new place has 3ph on poles everywhere, the estae agent reckons that a €1000 will give me 3phase and all the meter's......
so any ideas on that ??????????

10 years is a common brake even point without knowing all the variables would be difficult to say different.

I'm looking at it different had the money in the bank getting about an 8% saving can't get 8 % interest from the bank

Or you could just submit a G83 notice to your dno, switch the pv on and enjoy free daytime electricity... and generously donate yor surplus to the grid. Just make sure your meter doesn't go backwards though.... someone I know got seriously into negative useage!

Waiting for software to balance the cells then will add a shunt and get it talking to my victron via pi

slightly off topic... but you can get 3 phase grid tied inverters for solar PV panels etc.... last time I looked they cost hardly any extra than the single phase inverters

there should be no other cost different between a single phase and 3 phase install (obv. a bit of wire /switches etc.)

That's what I like to hear, now to see if the garage is south facing.

No done much more on this until today have moved the batteries to a better location in the garage hung the inverter. And done some configuration of the BMS

Sparky booked for Tuesday hopefully will be powering house after dark by the end of next week
