Powertool storage cupboard ideas?

My Milwaukee m12 and m18 stuff is laying all in different places in my garage and I'd like to make an effort to get them corralled into one tidy, organised cabinet.

To incude battery storage. I ordered one of these to see the quality and if OK I'll order a second:



I have strong steel cupboards that I'm not using for anything. I'll clean them out, bolt to wall, find the keys and paint the inside before figuring out tidy ways of hanging or storing the tools.

they are so that scrotes can pinch four tools at once without straining themselves!

I had a light-fingered acquaintance who had served his time. One of the valuable bits of advice he gave me when we discussed people stealing to order was "Don't use shadow boards or have everything in nice carry cases . A shadow board shows the range of tools to drop in a rucksack or super strong bin bags and cases can easily be tied in sixes.. three at each end and carried over each shoulder .

Another thing he said is . " If you do get done over at night , have a look round the vicinitynext morning as the thief will often steal then drop it off . hiding his loot hidden in undergrowth. bushes or rubbish and come back a few days later having found customers for what they have taken or just to move it on a bit at a time in broad day light .

The power tools are stored between a a 5 foot tall document fire safe, around. 90kg without the tools in it. The remainder are in an ex MOD security safe with combination lock. Again heavy and much more so with the tools in it.
The cutting discs for the angle grinders are locked away too.
Then just for belt and braces the garage and shed are alarmed with door contacts and PIR sensors watched over by CCTV and a big dog that doesn’t take food from strangers.
We’ve been burgled twice and both times they got away empty handed. and would like to keep it that way.

I know someone that had a visit in the night and had a few things lifted. That's exactly what the police advised, he lived in the country, sure enough the stolen goods were found in the undergrowth.
I actually asked him why not leave it and set up some security cameras around the place and get video evidence of the perpetrators coming back to retrieve their loot. That's a non runner apparently as they just claim they found the stuff in the undergrowth while out for a walk (at 2 in the morning in the pitch black )

They just need find the address, get past the alarm and be competing in the worlds strongest man to remove the safes so they have time work on them.

They are very heavy safe like cabinets my brother had made for me by the tanker fabricators he used to design for.

Fetching hammerite gold interior getting grey repaint - first coat on tonight. I'll also touch in the black on the outer edges. I also managed to find the original key which is just as well as the locks are welded in and capped with 3mm steel plates fully welded so would have been extremely difficult to replace the locks.





In reality no one is running away with these as one with tools in it will be 100kg+. But I'll still bolt them to floor and wall just to be a right c%&t!

Drills and similar a can be stored in short lengths of waste pipe with a slot cut out and screwed to the underside of a shelf.

I thought that , when I used scaffold planks & rollers made out of scaffold tube. to move a cast iron back boiler . I used a baby Tirfor to drag it up even more boards & rollers into the 8 cubic yard skip .

" A local scrap metal collector " built like the proverbial brick privy , tapped on my door later that Sunday afternoon , " I just seed your old back boiler in the skip can I have it ? ".

" Yes , certainly it will give us more room for bricks & rubble etc .

He hauled himself up into the skip and picked the boiler up like it was a box of crisps & rolled it on the side of the skip on to his transit where he had dropped the side down . It was a 1950 council house build back boiler running three gravity rads .
I estimated it to be about 200 kg as I had to stand on three boards to lever it up .....about 2/3 of their 12 foot length .

Putting the battery charger inside the metal cabinet too is a good idea too along with not having flammable stuff on/around it. Because if a battery is going to have a issue and catch fire, its when its charging possibly unattended.
The ryobi storage cabinets hang the tools below but have a cable hole in the box section with the lockable lid and some vents to get the charging heat out to encourage you to do this too.

I got these 3d printed Milwaukee organisers in the post today - playing around with where to stow them inside the steel cabinet





I also got a couple of these tool racks which are great for drill or impact gun storage. I may tack weld these inside somewhere.

I am thinking of cutting down a metal shelf I have and tacking it inside the cabinet before painting all in and laying rubber tool mats. Half shelved would work well to set in the large M18 stuff on one side and allow the other organisers to sit on the remaining base.

I have M12 3d printed battery racks to find a home for too. (And generally alot more Milwaukee tools! )
