Powering a Ready welder from an SIP migmate

I have a Ready welder. It works fine. But it is a pain having to use batteries when I am in my workshop. SOOOOO, I am wondering if it is possible to power it from my SIP migmate. But why not just use the Migmate, I hear you ask? It has the standard wire feed setup; need I explain further. Basically I'm just hoping to use the Ready Welder as a spool gun and bypass the dodgy SIP wire feed issues.

I don't want to modify either too much as I would still like to keep the Ready Welder mobile and the Migmate useable on its own.

Anyone got any sugguestions or other ideas???

it would require modification of the sip to stop the feed motor engangeing and wireing so that the mig was "hot" what needed with a switch etc

Just take the feed roll pressure off ?

So it is possible and its even in the instructions! Thanks for the link; i've lost my instructions and never thought that it would even be recommended by the manufacturer.

Page 15 mentions connection to a CV (Constant Voltage) MIG. Is my Migmate CV? If so it should be a straight forward job. I could add a switch to disable the wire feed motor on the SIP and a plug for quick connection of the power to the RW.

If you simply take the spool out of the MIG and release the tension spring that will do...

MIG's should all be constant voltage, so effectively depending on how you set it up you've got yourself a nice spool gun setup...
Would be handy for Ali too

Just fit dinze points to the front or inside the welder and make fly leads to link up to the ready welder to make it easy

Hmmm, who? Dinze what?? The ready welder is already equiped with Anderson type plugs. These should be okay shouldn't they? Or are the other type a better choice?

Hopefully I'll get chance to have a go this weekend and post the results.

Wouldn't have thought so, it's only a motor turning and I'm sure it'll be happier "offload" not doing work

Get some plugs to put on the ends of the leads and fit a couple of sockets to the front of your MIG, quick disconnect sort of thing...
You can then fit a plug onto the earth clamps lead to make it removable and possibly one to the torch lead to add polarity reversal if your mig allows it, ie: quick change , rather than having to go inside to switch it over by undoing bolts and moving cables...

Thought they would, but I like the look of the Dinse connectors as well.

I think i'll use both, by making an adaptor lead. Now thinking Dinse sockets on the MIG and a short adaptor lead; Dinse plug to Anderson plug. That way I don't even need to alter the Ready welder and I think the Dinse will be easier to panel mount on the MIG


Omniata, I like the idea of making the earth lead removable. Think I'll upgrade the clamp at the same time.

suppose they could...... and I do have some spare ones. Saves spending more hard earned. Although the Dinse would make for a tider installation.

Only if the MIG supports it though

I don't think you can reverse the polarity on every MIG ?

there is nothing for the mig to support its DC so there is always a + and -
