Powder booth build, joint query ;)

Hi all,

I want to build a new powder-coat spray booth, bench-top not massive.

Was looking at using a 15mm x 30mm box frame, build in side panels and fixed into a cube so i can dismantle if i need to get it out of the shop (small door)

Something like 1mm alu sheet skins, riveted on to the box, alu seems cheaper than steel in 1mm thickness but i'm not convinced yet on that, maybe zintec.

My query is - whats a good method of fixing the panels together after ?? Its only 1.5mm tube so tapping threads is out.

Drill right through and use roofing bolts maybe?

I would place the rivets inside so the panels can butt up closely - one reason for using rectangle framework.

Its all on paper at present so open to change

rivnuts? put them in the box

you would want ones that are as flush as possible, they have a slight ridge above the surface or could use a seal

never used them but they look like the right thing

The heads about 1mm thick so i can cut a hole in the skin sheet to pass the heads, that will leave them flush

M5 should do it, do they need a special tool to fit?

Ideally yes, especially if you have many to do.

what about using Sikkaflex to stick the panels to a frame....
never get em off and totally sealed..

Yes i'm going to use that to stick the skins to the frames but also need to make it a kit or i'll never be able to get it out of the door - easier to build in panels too, a bit more framework but much easier to build.

Just finalising the sizes and plan now, probably 1m H x 1m W x 0.8m D but with 200mm opening doors/flaps on front to extend the depth a bit, makes it more complex but i can fold shut when not in use and save valuable floor space

It will end up as a 1m cube, internally a bit less due to some sort of filter & fan box.
