positional nomenclature

Could one of you kind chaps and chapettes please tell me about positions? I see and understand PA, PB etc. Now i'm stumped with 1G and the like. Is there a common denominator or is it a deep subject? Cheers, Bernie.

PA-PB ect are European standard, 1-2G ect are ASME standard. Basically they are the same.......
