Thanks to Weldequip, I've now got my shinny new portamig 185. I also have GAS, Wire and I am now ready to go. All I have to do now is some practice to get acquaint myself with the controls settings. Slightly different to Murex and Oerlikon I used on my course.
Each machine is slightly different, but you soon get used to them. When weldequip supplied me with my portamig 300swfu, i actually sat down wrote out all the power settings, then went through each power setting playing with the wire speed to get the right match and wrote it all down, for future reference. Now i just change the power setting, twist the wire speed control (often with out looking at it) and presto i have a power to wire speed match, without thinking. It might be worth you doing the same and writing down the settings Tigger at least until it comes easy.
That's good advice. I have to order some steel for my car project I am going to do. So I'll get a little extra to practice on to get the correct settings.
I tried out one at a neighbours house the other day, I was so impressed that I just had to go and order one to replace my trusty old SIP which had eventually lay down and died, or had I killed it - the waiting is the worst bit.
