Hi all, looking into POR 15 to keep the rust demons at bay, just wondering has anybody on here had any dealings with it, and does it do what it says on the tin?

I've used it, it doesn't like smooth surfaces (fell off without much persuasion) but did OK over rough stuff. It's not cheap and needs prime and topcoat (degrades in UV if I remember right).
Some folk love it, I prefer other things now but it did a decent job.

What Chipper said! It keys well over rough or cleaned, previousley rusted metal, but won't key properly on shiny metal. You need to use "Metal Ready" if the metal is shiny. It isn't UV stable, so will need overcoating if it is exposed to sunlight (would be fine on a chassis for example). Once the tin is open it goes off really quickly, even if the tin is resealed properly, so the multipack of small cans is usually a better buy than the big can.

One last thing, WEAR GLOVES! If you get it on your skin it will be with you for a fortnight. It DOESN'T come off!

I've used it on a fuel tank and some shotblasted parts in the engine bay (without primer or overcoating).

The finish is very good with a brush - there are no brush marks and it looks like a satin sprayed finish. Ideal for things that you can't be bothered to spray but still want to look nice. The coating is very plastic - should be resistant to chipping. Seconded what's been said above.

My car hasn't really been out of the garage yet so I can't report on durability or rust performance.

you wana clean it up a bit first , ideal use their metal prep stuff on it too

its good when it works well....if you get it wrong it peels off in sheets

Yep, the loose rust needs got rid of, but it will happily sit on a solid rusty surface. If that makes sense?

so just to be sure, its no harm to put it on rust thats been wire brushed and it works good, and shiny metal is a no no but what about if its been shot blasted first??

if its been shotblasted why do u need to use it?? just 2k etch prime it then paint

It's good stuff and no lie.

the rougher the surface the better, I've only ever used it over wire brushed rust, and it stays put so long as you have degreased it well. It should work over shot blasted steel.

It is polyurethane, so is moisture curing - open a tin and use it all or throw it away.

they do a pack of six small tins called a six shooter, thats what I tend to buy. If you leave it in the sunlight without overpainting it, it goes odd, then peels.

Frost sell it (allegedly), but never seem to have any!!

saw it mentioned on a forum once...

if you punch a nail or something in the bottom and screw in a self taper then pour it out of the hole instead of taking the lid off , helps keep it sealed so it lasts better
