Not much use as a glue, it doesn't even bond wood that well.
Epoxy resin does do it though. Ally is best 'wet sanded' with neat resin before bonding with thickened resin., as it oxidises very quickly in air after dry sanding. Depending on how big/long the steel/ally mix is, you might get trouble with differental expansion.

The big motor yacht guys use ally superstructures on steel hulls. They have found the best way is to explosively bond a laminate of steel to ally, then weld the steel to the hull and the s/structure onto the ally. Not exactly for the home w/shop

not as you've stated, but steel to f/glass projects - yes. The strength of bond is more in the design of the steel and holes drilled in it to allow sufficient bond through to hold the piece in place as below.

Depending on what you are attempting it might be worth looking at something like one of the Stikaflex products ?

Good point -I guess with drillings like that it is really a resin to resin bond with steel embedded in it?
