Pole saw, Ryobi max power or einhell professional?

Looking for a reasonable cordless DIY pole saw

Option 1 einhell professional gp-hc 18v and also includes a hedge trimmer head which may be useful

Option 2 Ryobi max power 36v. Thinking this should be more powerful than 18v tools, also has a 25cm blade

Anyone have experience of either or something similar?

I've got one of the Lidl 'Florabest' 18v ones. Very impressed by what it's capable of cutting through and how much you can cut on a 2ah battery. A hedge cutter attachment would be handy though. Depends if they are available when you want one is the only problem with the Lidl/ Aldi stuff.

I have a ryobi 18v pole saw, also a 18v hedge sweeper, I've been nothing but happy with them and use them a fair bit round a acre of garden with tree's & hedges, although the pole can be a bit flexy when at maximum extension (you add glass/fibre reinforced sections to extend it, its not telescopic, and the wires are embedded into the extensions as the battery pack stays in the handle), I've never broken a segment in a few years. The extensions are interchangeable between a few of their tools and I may have on occasion used it with extra length added in from a different tool, at which point yeah it gets really floppy 20+ ft up in the air but it worked

Because I have a few battery packs, I just swap packs until the job or I'm done.
I used it a lot to cut up smaller branches on the ground when we had to fell a large ash tree too besides tree lobbing, I dont bother to try sharpen the chains, instead buy a 3 pack of new oregon brand chains every few seasons and keep the chain oil topped up in the work head. The hedge sweeper I was using the other day to cut back brambles that had got a bit rowdy and intruded onto a bit I need to pass through with the ride on, which its great for also.
Never bought any of the 36v range to comment, because why buy into a different battery setup when the 18v works for me. Even my chainsaw & strimmer is 18v.

But as with any cordless kit, the real question then becomes what else you have that takes brandX's cordless batteries, because it makes sense to just go with what you already have and then all your batteries/chargers fit everything else in time.

That's partly the issue. My older bosch batteries have given up and I am left with some working Aldi batteries and a couple of older fatmax ones so the decision to standardise makes sense for the future but means this is not just about this particular tool

Good to hear about the Ryobi 18v tool as that opens up a bigger range of tools although I lent my mains hedge trimmer to someone whose Ryobi 18v hedge trimmer had broken and he said he had forgotten how powerful a good mains trimmer could be

Yes, the smaller toys are often repeated but I haven't ever seen anything like this in Aldi and I stopped looking after they stopped selling on their website

Not seen these in aldi. I got mine from lidl
Agree with above the 18v stuff seems to do the job well so unless you're doing it on a daily/ weekly basis you should be OK

I have the Einhell 18v long reach pole saw and have found it useful and will easily cut branches 2 or 3in dia.. For its reach it is quite light which is important when trying to use it. The only drawback is it is a very light thin walled aluminium tube and so easily damaged if a branch thats been cut falls down on it.

i agree but im only triming next doors branches or the ones on the estate where they wont maintain there own trees keeping them away from going over the boundary

even next door is trimming branches for the evening light

Makita XGT 40v split shaft is roughtly £250 and is very very good, pole saw attachement is £140 plus £70 for an extension if needed. I also have the hedger £250, and trimmer £80, attachements.

Currently theres a free battery offer which would normally cost £160 ( but takes 35 days to arrive, I just recieved my fourth free battery today).
This is professional grade kit, which I use professionally, along with their XGT top handle chainsaw, blower and short hedge trimmer.

For non powered, you cant beat the 4m screwfix/b&q Magnusson tele pole pruner. Extremely light and capable for £85.


36v/40v kit gets a lot more power than 18v.

I'd also suggest kit which has batteries of the 21700 tabless style, they have more power and lighter than 18650's.

A decent manual pole saw is a decent option. I have a wolf garten one and I prefer it to my petrol multi tool with the pole saw attachment
