plz help the newbie

hi there, my name is john i am close to retiring, so am looking to buy a welding machine for hobby/light restoration use, have never used one before so am confused, as to which one is best to start with, gas or gasless mig or arc,
where do i learn which is more suitable for a beginner?
or has anyone got any tips/info?
ps i know nothing about this subject but am keen to learn..

hi there. mig with gas is probably the way to go for u . easy to learn and use i prefer stick and oxy acetylene as i allready have them i have a small mig which works ok. got it given so had a go just to see what im mising gas is more versatile migs just quicker and more convenient for most

thanx for the input, i think i will probably look for a mig with gas, oxy acetalyne sounds a bit advanced,,
