plumbing - shower change over valve

got a shower unknown brand ...has a lever to choose between overhead shower and the hand held wand , seems to be an issue as it doesnt shut off

is this likley to be a universal tap washer type effort or a unique part thats impossible to find?

If you can strip it down to the cartridge and take some pictures there are companies that will identify it for you, I use Divapor and the shower doctor

No, the cartridge sits in the housing to control the flow, pull it out with the water on and you will get wet

I have swapped simple valves live before, usually to save draining a big hot water tank that doesn’t have a valve

You may find that there are built-in valves on the unit.

Kitchen sink cupboard is pretty standard.
Under the stairs.
Failing that there's always the Rat box.

Just don't go there. ... one of my fitters had to replace a tray because he assumed that

Also had to remove tiles to get tray out.......
