Plug sizes

This is probably a really dumb question, but are all 32A plugs the same size?

I thought the 32A plugs were similar in size to 110 type plus you find on sites, but a local supplier had plugs that size and rated them at 16A. The 32A plugs he had were huge. He called them Commando plugs. Do you get 32A in a smaller size?

you're thinking of 110/230 16A plugs. 32A plugs are bigger, as you have found.

all BS4343 industrial plugs are sized according to voltage, current and number of pins. Color also determines voltage. So of the body's differ in size and things like higher IP rating sealing rings adds size to. Commando is the MK range of sockets witch are OK but i prefer the ones with the screw ends that clamp onto cable such as the Lagrand range over the flexi rubber of the MK. The higher the current the bigger they get. If you think the 32 is big try the 125A 415v.

Sid 32amp are massive plugs compared to the 16amp, both my welders run on 32 amps

Against my welder they just look out of proportion
