Hello there. i bought a clarke 190n easy arc welder 2 weeks ago and it was going great. i was using 2.5 rods all the time from the house supply but then for a change i decided to use a 4mil rod on 185amp. it was going grand until it cut out about a min into the weld. i replaced the fuse in the plug and it still wont work. could someone please give me some advice on this matter and also anyone know a good repairman just incase. i appreciate any thoughts on this

A 2.5mm rod is about the maximum you can use from that type of machine on a 13amp supply. You'll have to crank up the amps for 3.2 & 4.0mm rods and that will quickly blow a 13amp fuse. It will probably be the thermal cut-out in the machine as they are only a light duty model & not designed for running those kind of rods for any length of time...should re-set itself after 5 or 10 minutes & be OK again

Might sound like a stupid question but it is a 13amp fuse, not 5amps or something? Make sure it's a 13amp fuse (and a 'live' one) & turn the juice down, back to the 2.5mm rods. If that doesn't work sling it back under warranty.

The Thermal cutout doesn't have a manual re - set does it ?

im afraid not. just parts list, diagrams and a maintanence parts but nothing mentions my problem

I have a clarke stick welder 210 amps, i'm sure i had a problem where the copper wire from the transformer was soldered to another wire that went to the connector on the panel. The solder melted and so no connection.

If your set has a cooling fan....is this working when it is switched on ?

No my machine just has a thermal overload reset button. Can you think of anything else that might cause the problem? This is such a pain cause I only have it a week and I was really enjoying using it...

I would be tempted to have it .....unplugged from the mains..... and whip the cover off to see if there are any obvious broken or loose connections.

Yeah i did that and there was no loose connections. im going to get one of my mates to look at it. He has a bit of experiance there but if he can,t sort it im just going to send it back under warrenty
