Please help identify this tool

Good day all. I am new to this forum.
Could anyone please help me identify this piece of kit (please see attached pics).
A friend of mine -- a metal fabricator -- acquired it as part of a job lot, but doesn't know what it is.

its a heater that was used when using
Co2 as a shielding gas ,mig welding
to stop the formation of ice on the gauge
a bit of a salesman gimmick
Argon tends to do this too when using high outouts when purging but is usualy harmless

More from the annals of what the devil is this file ... or from the same job lot, at any rate.
Does anyone knows what this probe like device with a switch is?
Connected to it is some kind of electrical control and an oxygen regulator. Attached pictures poor, I'm afraid.
