Hello everyone.
This is to share a discovery I’ve just made which could help anyone who’s ever stripped the cheapy plastic gears in wire feed motor of their low end mig welder.

(if a moderator can nick the photo then when the supplier disappears we still have a record)
This little blighter is installed in a lot of the lower end units, and also in the Sealey spool gun, where I discovered it. That makes me angry because the Sealey spool gun is certainly NOT priced in the low end, but uses a crappy feed unit.
After a wire jam stripped the gears in my spool gun, and then discovering the same motor on a cheapo two-switch welder (which stripped its gears in the hands of someone else) I started looking under the skirts of every MIG welder I saw.
It is AMAZING how many of them are fitted with this POS.
Previously I had ordered the complete drive unit directly from Sealey, annoying because I only needed the gears, slow and expensive too (almost 60 pounds).
Well yesterday I looked under the hatch of a CEVAL cheapo welder in a DIY shop in France and guess what I found!
Straight to the DIY shop’s service desk who explained that CEVAL do their own spare parts service.
So I found them on the web and called.
To my enormous surprise the first person who answered the phone understood what I wanted and proposed just the set of plastic gears for the modest sum of 23.92 EUROS post included!!!
I couldn’t believe it! When I asked further he said that it’s about the only thing that breaks on their welders and so he’s used to that enquiry.
Unfortunately they’re not set up to take phone orders so I’m sending off a cheque, for two sets.
I’ll see how fast they are and let you know; maybe this could help restore my faith in French after sales service.
A quick search of the forum has revealed a couple of people have had this problem, me included; but from a while back. If anyone else has a welder disabled by stripped plastic gears I would be happy to help. Ceval would need the cheque to be in Euros, I live in France so that’s not a problem.
Cheers
Luke
