Plastic welder

need a decent hot air plastic welder for bike plastics, plenty around, any experienced advice please up to £200.

The Leister brand are the best. I started with Triacs 20 years ago. They now have clever ones which maintain the temperature and show you it on an LED/LCD screen.

I did also use a Wegener which was certainly as good.

I cannot say if you will get one for 200ish, new they are 350+ +VAT.

The fairings may not be pure ABS or whatever they use now. There may be fillers included which make welding very difficult. Best to try on scrap since the rods are not available with fillers. Cutting thin strips of an identical panel will work too.

Thanks for that, I have sussed out the makes you refer to, too expensive for me, top gear though.
I am well familiar with plastic welding techniques, just need a replacement gun.

Have been looking at item 300785708840, just awaiting replies to a couple of questions from them before deciding.

Everything 'looks' the same as the Leister, colour, printing on the body and fan housing, just no Leister sticker. The specifications are very similar, so I would think cheaper components and mouldings, or a much lower profit margin, or a combination.

I would be interested in the answers to the questions too.

I wouldn' even try to compare this to a Swiss made Leister, even though it looks similar. May do the job for me though, spare element, years warranty.

I would personally go for the more powefull option, then it is possibly not too stretched most of the time. Maybe the seller found it didn't get hot enough, or not enough flexibility.
