Plasterer has scratched the sink..

We are having a new conservatory plastered, today , because the outside tap was frozen he asked the wife if he could get some water from the kitchen.
Looks like he's put the plastic trug in the sink.
Thing is it's a matt black polypropylene sink and there are now fine scratches on the bottom, sides and front top edge.
Looks like there's been grit on the bucket, it's expanded when filling and scratched as it's been lifted out.
I spent all last Sunday installing it and the three worktops that are around it.
Gutted.
Going to have to have a word tomorrow.

Have a word fair enough to make him aware and to be more careful but what do you hope to achieve, a new sink? A Matt black plastic sink is going to get pretty banged up with general use pretty quick anyway I'd of thought?

Can it be buffed out possibly then lightly abraded back to Matt?? I have a mate who does plastic spot repairs, looks great initially but I don't imagine it lasts.

Even a shiny stainless sink doesn't stay shiny for long!

Is the coating thick enough to allow you to polish them out? depending upon how soft it is some rubbing compound should get them out

Its matt black with little white specks ,a basic poly sink.
I know stuff doesn't last forever but it's obvious it's new , new worktops fresh silicone , the old sink and tops had to be moved out of his way to start the job.
I wouldn't put a trug in a sink anyway, the wife was working on her laptop , she assumed he was using the kettle.
I don't think it's unreasonable to be annoyed at a new fitting being damaged .

I would certainly make sure I would never use them again and I'd never suggest them to anyone if they are so inconsiderate enough to put plastering equipment in a paying customers sink!!

there's a few more on each side.. I know no one died and the first time I get a starter motor in it won't improve it but the missus thinks it's her fault for letting him do it and I sweated blood and tears fitting it and the worktops,so probably sounding more annoyed than is normal..

I would have filled the kettle and thawed out the outside tap myself. You would have thought as a skim he would have a sink tap to hose adapter he could have used. I visit so many properties without outside taps.

Its a shame, looks like that would be difficult to fix, it is annoying why you put a lot of effort into something and even though you know over time it will get a few knocks you do not expect someone else to damage it so quickly.

I would have filled the kettle and thawed out the outside tap myself. You would have thought as a skim he would have a sink tap to hose adapter he could have used. I visit so many properties without outside taps.

those sink tap hose adaptors are a desater waiting to happen, on some taps there brilliant on others they wont fit at all and the worst case they fit for a bit, a mate who dose a lot of plastering atm has an IBC in his van but charges like a wounded rhino, theer completly self sufficent for water power and tea

Thanks for this I now know what kind of sink I am never going to fit. I often stand buckets in our kitchen sink to fill when washing the car and it's still going strong. Good old stainless steel. I'd be miffed if a new one got scuffed like that so quickly though.

I drain my outside tap for winter from inside the kitchen then shut off its supply,its also lagged and has a celotex hat on

Sounds like a typical plasterer to me. Subtlety & care aren't usually their strong points.

to be exact hes washed/cleaned his bucket out within the sink they are movement scratches not filling up water scratches

I had to go sort out sink for a someone where the plasterer had washed his old plaster down the sink and the next day...blocked sink, He said he ran the tap for ages after but when i took the ubend off it was solid, He stood there and said it was a cheap ubend, To add insult to injury his plaster was really poor but he seemed upset i mentioned it.

Whoops. See that a lot. Always wash and chuck my tiling buckets outside for this reason. Why do trades treat peoples houses like building sites.

I think it comes down to how they are in life, Lots of trades people are very neat and clean and feel pride in work they do, Some are just bodgers and it shows in they way they clean up and work, I always clear up and make sure what i do looks right, It might not work but it looks right ..
