Plasma Torch

I have a 40a plasma cutter I bought from essex steam that they imported through their company concepts in business. It's a chinese made unit and on the whole it's been ok. As a company they no longer exist.

However, the torch is what lets it down and as it's made of a ceramic material it has broken.

I am looking for a replacement torch that will be robust and have available spares. Max i am cutting is 8mm steel, usually thinner with 5mm being the biggest I cut on a semi regular basis.

Any suggestions?

have you tried to get replacement consumables?

Depending on the torch there are various copper and Ceramic or Composite insulating parts.

genrally there is the nozzle and an electrode made of copper. Then there is a swirlpot usually made of composite or ceramic and a housing to hold it all together on the end of the torch. This is some sort of insulating material. all these are consumable items and can be replaced.

Yes, I have replacement consumables, but this is the torch body itself that is broken.

The torch is cast from a hard ceramic style material, I assume for the heat but it's not in any way or form robust. I had no problems, but it slipped off a bench when it's hose got knocked and broke on impact with the floor. So looking for a new torch that is a current model, has spares available for it and is more robust.

Will look at the link and see if they do whole torches.

Looking through the plasmapart site, they sell a variety of torches

Does anybody have any experience using any of them? Are any better than others and is there an advantage having a torch capable of running a higher ampage is a lower ampage is used. Are the higher Amp torches built batter and will they give a better cut.

Ultimatly i am very aware the torch is the bit that dictates the final quality of a cut and if i'm changing it, i might as well get as good a torch as I can

They do torches too.

you will need to get a torch of the correct type for the machine. There are different ways of starting the arc, HF, pilot, scratch etc. I suspect it will be the pt31 if it is for a cut40 derivative, the supplier should be able to advise you though.
