Plasma cutter power resistor source or advice

I have a US made oldish Miller? cutter in which the high power resistor has broken (physically!). It is an enamelled 220ohm 200watt tube resistor made in the USA. I am having problems finding an exact match to the original Danotherm although I can find ceramic wire round ones of the same spec or enamelled ones of a higher (300) wattage. How critical is an exact match? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The resistance value is critical, you need to stick to the 220ohm, but it's fine to go over the wattage replacing a 200w with a 300w.

If space isn't an issue I would replace with a higher spec one anyway.

What he said, don't go lower on the wattage though, and check the physical size before you order. Try technical arc, they've done me some big power resistors in the past.

Thanks for your advice - I will contact Technical Arc and go for a larger wattage if I can.

Found a supplier of the correct Danotherm resister - GRF 20/267 - in the UK but he says he has to order them in and Danotherm will only supply as a MOV of 5 which would be £300! Not good customer service on the part of Danotherm.

Then it lists 220 Ohm 200 watt resisters. Now you can order from them on line register etc.

The prices are typically from £20 to £36 plus vat and then delivery. Not sure on the type of resister you have so not saure if any of these are the same?

This is pretty normal for a manufacturer, it protects the margins of their dealers etc. I'd ask if there is a danotherm agent that can quote you a single item price.
