How do you get the cut so neat? what current and pressure are you running?
My plasma is OK quality but the cut is always a bit messy, often finding it rebridges the cut area.
How to get the cut so neat?
the torch came fitted with a stand off spring.
I took that off first, try to keep the end of the torch slightly above the workpiece or gently slide it over the surface, then rest right hand gently on the work piece and slide it along, and use left hand as a guide, with fore arm resting on the work piece to give a triangle across the shoulders damping any shakes and concentrate on moving smoothly. Remember to breathe, and work sat down if possible.
An exercise that I use when I do my sculpture classes is to stick a marker pen on the end of a piece of hose pipe and get people to try drawing long curves and squiggles or signatures with it.
The main thing is to be relaxed and smooth, it is easy to hold too tight and get tensed up leading to shakes.
I find it better to make cuts across my body line, then movement is coming from your waist in a rotating movement, other folk on here swear blind that the smoothest way is to cut towards or away from your body.
Horses for courses.
It is a very focussed business, 10 or fifteen minutes seems like an age when doing this kind of thing.
Pressure? I think between thirty and fifty PSI, current on the new cutter is 19amps on 1.6mm material.
To avoiding having the cut bridged is mainly a matter of speed of movement, too quick and you can see sparks above the workpiece which means penetration could be better.
Keeping the power matched to the thickness of the metal helps as well, lower for thinner and upwards as it gets thicker.
Lots of practice is the key.
I was doing this yesterday.
The sheet is 1.6mm and the dogs are about 40mm long. There were a few amputees before I was happy.
Chunkolini,i to have a R-tech 40hf,2nd hand shop soiled though, after you've finished a cut how long does your post air go on for, mine goes on for 10-12 seconds,am thinking this is far to long and that on all cuts weather its thin or thick stuff.
we have a fairly new plasma, we had trouble with the cutting it kept burning out nozzles we also kept replacing the electrodes. Our welding suppliers said it was the little ceramic collar sitting around the electrode. We replaced it and it was perfect but they do tend to go occassionally. Your handset may not be the same but its worth a look
