Piranha Nuts

Anyone use these in place of the gland nut and banjo on SWA?

Piranha 20mm Earth Locking Nut | Pratley (BELN20-PK10)

Are they threaded M20 internally so the gland screws into them? I get the grub screws lock it.

Ta. I can't see how it bites into the plastic of the enclosure, aren't the grub screws perpendicular to the M20 thread? Don't they bugger it up?

Ordered a couple to play with.

In my gate enclosure I've 3 SWAs coming in. I did away with the banjos and drilled a bit of brass plate connecting all 3. On two of them I'm using the armoured as the earth.

Then got an M6 bolt through the case to tap off of.

Thinking I'd be better to tap a bit of 1/4" brass plate M20 and do away with the gland nuts altogether?

If you do that, you will have to rotate the gland itself to tighten it. If it has already been closed onto the cable, it will twist the cable.

Yeah, bit of pita to take everything apart now. Could I just replace the existing gland nuts with Piranha nuts?

All the SWA is properly made off in the glands using a Bladerunner. Smear if silicone grease too.

It doesn't have to bite into a plastic enclosure, just tighten the nut onto the gland and secure with the grubscrew, I use them and the dual version in Wiska boxes.

Ta. So do you remove the existing gland nut and use the Piranha nut in its place or go on top?

Then if you remove the gland nut how do you ensure the Piranha nut is tight i.e that the gland doesn't rattle about?

The Piranha nut in the photo above doesn't look threaded.

Cheers. Says this amongst other stuff if you dig deeper on the TLC site:

• The unique cutting teeth of the earth nut bite into box wall, enabling gland to be tightened with one tool from outside.

• Grub screw secures nut to gland ensuring continuity especially when used with plastic enclosures even if box becomes damaged.

• Nut can be reversed with smooth side to enclosure wall and tightened from inside where required.
