Pins and needles in right arm

Before I go the quacks I thought id ask if anyone has had similar problems.

For the last week ive had pins and needles in my little finger and the next finger up, but my thumb and the other fingers are fine???

Theres also an ache in my elbow, the soft bit (funny bone?).

Everythings working fine, but its an uncomfortable, numb feeling in the two fingers when I touch/rub against something.

I don't know what it is, but im sure it,l be something to do with using hammers repeatedly

carpal tunnel springs to mind. When i crashed my bike i damaged the carpal nerve and gave me tingling and numbness in ring finger and little finger.

I did look at that on the interweb, it is a possibility.

Im a sole trader doing wrought ironwork, the last thing I need when it starts getting busy is an operation

its not as bad as you think. Half hour under local anaesthetic and you are done. Mine was done in out patients while they were waiting for a space in theatre to rebuild my knee.

Got the same, probably Carpal Tunnel, but there are other options these days rather than an OP according to my GP.
Speak to your GP first, I'm in a similar boat, one man Ltd. Co.

yea cortisone injections and then the operation after they re ocurre its called change your job and stop doin whats causing it . been there done it and got the teeshirt . live with it theres no fairy godmother gonna give u cash for sitting on your a,,se doing nothing . i work for myself and just live with it. at the mo i have a trapped nerve in neck and its killing

My wife has this before she had her stroke..................not directly I hasten to add. she had an operation for it and that worked. BUT 13 years later after only one arm doing twice the work its back again and on the 7th of may she is having the same procedure again.

Thanks for the replies, im only 36 and I already sound like my dad- he was always coming home after work and moaning about his aches (he was a steel erector)

The last time I saw the doctors I was a teenager, it looks like the manual labour is catching up with me

Had my Carpal Tunnel done 10 years ago
Tennis elbow is the big problem now
Caused by years of lifting hammering and grinding
Steroid injections help but wont cure it
Rest is the best cure but it wont pay the mortgage

Suffered with Carpal Tunnel for a year so far, GP only said to get concerned when I can't keep a grip and drop almost anything. Pain in the backside, but get on regardless. Also Bursitis/Tendon Sheath Inflamation in my neck/shoulder.

Self employed all my life, I like to call it working too hard and aging my body too quickly. GP says take it easy, self sufficency/small holding/self employment denotes otherwise.

I had the same went for xrays turned out to be a trapped nerve in my neck c6 I think it went on its own after about 4-5 weeks

Try putting your hand in a splint for a bit. I had it so bad I was in agony when I drove a computer all day flipping between six different programs. The splint really eased the pain and it cleared up eventually.

Hmmm that sounds like a good tip. I drive a computer all day, so that may well work for me too.

Pinky and ring finger tingling/numbness is a trapped ulnar nerve according to my google search; I've got the same at the mo and will be seeing the quack as soon as I can get an appointment.

Carpal tunnel gets your thumb and index not other side of hand. You have the ulnar nerve/cubital tunnel version which is different.

Think about what you are doing, leaning on etc and change it.

If you have other stuff going wrong, weakness etc then it could be more spine related, any neck pain?

As an A&E Consultant I'll tell you not to go to a Doctor but see a chiropractor instead.

Now, Im a devil for sleeping on my right arm and waking up with it 'dead', im going to ask the missus to swap sides on the bed so I lie the opposite way, see if that makes a difference.

You'll wake up with a dead left arm instead!
I do that sometimes and once woke up with both arms completely dead. I had a hell of a job turning over!
