Piece of paper needed for welding

In my new job it appears that to be allowed to touch the welder you need a piece of paper saying this person won't lick the hot end of the welder.

This would not be a major issue but i got the person who does have the piece of paper to tack something together and


how can i put this

So what is the quickest and cheapest way to get a piece of paper?

As i want to make a few bits and pieces and i'm not letting the "expert" weld them up

Take his piece of paper and tipp-ex out his name and write yours in, he obviously has no need for it from what you've seen.

I did this course, gone up as I think I paid £100. I did it as it was cheap for 40hrs of tig practice and all the metal I could weld up. No idea what a SQA cert gives you though. https://nescol.ac.uk/courses/engineering/welding

Looks like no SQA certs at all but it does say 'The course is suitable for all levels - from beginner to intermediate, up to coded standard' so perhaps it actually offers industry coding rather than anything from the SQA..?

I'm more familiar with secondary national qualifications though, this could be an NPA (Non Progression Award - no exam at the end) award. Only SQA welding qualification beyond what I teach as part of N4/5 Practical Metalwork might be this:

(Management are pushing NPA's on us all the time but don't appreciate that we don't have the facilities or resources.)

After seeing the standard of the guy with the piece of paper i don't know if he has 40 minutes let alone 40 hours

What i am wanting is a morning of death by powerpoint followed by an afternoon of "this is a welder don't lick it"

Unfortunately it's politics etc.
I needed one to say I was safe when at uni.

After my first bit of welding from the "certified instructor" I sort of may have slightly insulted him and just picked up the torch to do the bits he missed.

Then got asked to do bit's for them.

im expecting this fun and game when i start uni this month. on the walkaround the dept head was gushing about the standard of workmanship of his students on a fabricated project. looked like stevie wonder and ray charles had been having a lightsaber battle with mig torches, and i told him as much. didnt go down too well

The world is full of people with bits of paper today but without the knowledge to wipe thier

I suppose you do what the chicken man did then and go get your own

to make it even better, at the previous college i was at, i was offered a job teaching fab/weld and machining, which i turned down. they then sent me an email stating i couldnt access the workshop as a student without supervision...........soooo, qualified enough to teach it, but not safe to be in there unsupervised apparently

The problem then is very obviously a skills shortage within the staff. This is actually what will kill trades
We really do need to attract better skilled people into training but the package is frankly way, way to low
Government have effectively cut spend on fe colleges and spent instead on schools

Not being funny but a gcse in drama etc ain't gonna make diddly squat difference to your real employment prospects or the economy

Oz pays tradespeople much better than in the UK. Anyone prepared to move and have a trade qual then you can make some decent cash in Oz working on the tools. The cost of living can be high in Oz in places like Sydney but get out in the mines and you can be on much better salaries and with subsidised living.

That’s where the immigrants go but the east coast is by far the best part of Oz. The Brisbane/Gold and Sunshine Coast region is the place that is really booming and has the best all year round weather. Sydney’s northern beaches are just an awesome beautiful part of the country (but expensive). Adelaide and Port Lincoln are fantastic and much more liveable than Perth and North Queensland where I come from has the Greeat Barrier Reef, Islands, rainforests, mining and loads of industry for work.
