Hi, Have been getting ready for welding on my old fiesta- after a few attemps and adjustment to the settings here are some of the 'best' welds i came up with, Im using a clarke 151 and quite pleased with it so far. I would appreciate any adivce to help me improve... be as brutal as you lke!

No need for brutal they look very good for practice!
A decent butt weld is not so easy to get neat, particularly
upside down under a rusty car, but those lap and plug weld
do look ok. Might have turned the power up one more or moved
a little slower on the lap weld, but that's not criticism.

try some butt joins with a small gap

one thing that helps me , get a lump of brass and use it anywhere you can get behind the weld , stops bog blobs falling through and helps prevent holes etc

Those practise welds are very good!
It looks like you are using argoshield gas and not pure CO2??

Now have a go at butt welding two ~1mm or thinner pieces together.

All good and well on clean shiny steel.
Sorry to report though.....complete different ballgame
altogether on the rusty thin stuff lurking on your car

Even worse still,try it laying flat on your back with red hot underseal dripping
down your neck lol.

Oh well,i hope i haven't put you off Its quite rewarding actually to tell you the truth.
Theres nothing better than a oily,dirty,rusty subframe dropping challenge!

Ps/ oh i forgot to add.Dont attempt long runs (like you have done there)on the car.
The idea is to tack your new steel up into place. then weld across the tacks with small alternating beads of roughly one and a half inches.
Also the Key two words here are FIRE PREVENTION.
If you cant get a mate to firewatch for you just make sure you move as much combustible material out of the way.
Fire extinguishers are a good bet too.
