Picture framers, a question

I've just stripped a load of old pictures from their frames, I wanted the glass. There's a lot of thin tree wood backing boards, are they useful beyond a supply of kindling? It's likely some are about 100 years or so old.

Most of the frames are ropy, and very impractical to post from here. And if the frames are bad, the art was worse, both in condition and merit.

I mean, the artist couldn't even get the eyes at the same height!

Sheesh!

I'd rather that than a cloying picture of a cute child with an inspirational message underneath exhorting children to say their prayers.
