On the left just above the volume controls flick it to the front so the red doesn't show if it is showing. My 4s earphone jack stopped working and I repaired it last week with a new ribbon cable which includes the jack socket, ringer mute and the volume buttons. It's a fiddly job but the part was only £2 and it works now.

Mine flicks on whenever I take it out of it's case, easy to miss.
I've had Androids that have just stopped working never to go again, I've got a Samsung that stuck on it's start screen and nothing will shift it. I've repaired half a dozen iphones and the dearest repair has been £15. I like the Android operating system and the IOS and use whichever comes up at the right price.
The last few upgrades I've had(1 was a windows !). Ivebeen tempted to go back to a basic one ,as you can gather from thes posts it's taking me a while to get to know these features! so I'll not be changing soon & like all things androids,windows ,iPhones,all have their quirks,apart from my inadequacies using it,this is the first time it's given any problem.

Volume down and on button, volume down, on and home button. There are various different combinations I've never seen one with a dedicated recovery or reset button but I've done Cyanogen mod on a couple of phones and tablets with different degrees of success. Android is getting better as it develops, early issues were definitely flaky and ate battery power. Some Androids just will not recover and I've got one of them. I've had this 4s for years now and it's easy and cheap to fix and I've dropped it a few times without breaking it. I'm 64 and don't find it complicated, I'd like a 5s to take to bits just to compare if I ever see a cheap one. I like iMessage and facetime in wifi it's like free texts.

Still going strong, never lets me down.
When the work smart phone plays up, it will till be working.
I can take the SIM from works phones when they will not have a signal and that old girl will still work.
at work we uses Samsung phones, we get anything from 6 to 9 months from a unit before it has the be Factory reset or sent to be repaired.
New is not always good.

Is it stuck on start screen or in boot loop where it constantly keeps booting ? If it's boot loop I've seen dodgy on off switches stuck in the on position

Start screen, sometimes it will open in recovery but it always fails and goes back to start screen, not really bothered with it for ages it's only an old Galaxy Mini. I used a Chinese Jelly Bean Android phone for a couple of years it's still on my desk. It works but battery only lasts a few hours but I used it for the Torque app and it is handy for that. Nokia are getting back into the game and releasing their old 3310 unit with the outstanding battery standby.

Not made or sold by Nokia though, think of it as en Enfield India of the phone world.
