I feel bad about not mentioning that I had older Citroens for years, and they all gave years of trouble free motoring, but none had complicated electronics. The newest was a '98 Xantia estate, which i really liked. Not sure I'd be brave enough to risk a newer one, though. Got carried away with sticking the boot into Peugeot.
Running a Hyundai Tucson now and really like it. Doubt I'll ever go back to a normal car now I've had an SUV type vehicle.
My 03 Peugeot Expert van (2.0HDi) has been sitting in the drive for nearly a year due to a clutch fault. It needs the engine removing to get access and a nightmare to work on. Wished I'd bought a Transit !
Renault clio pops in '03 plate, 48,000 on the clock, elderly owner, says its not running to good, engine light is on, and the power surges and is sluggish.... Plugged into diagnostics, to find 12 error codes!!!! Everything you could imagine, misfires, MAP MAF sensor, etc. Check all power connections, ignition leads coil packs, etc
Clears the codes, take it for a good drive, bring back and plug in, no codes, great! Take it out again, and again, and again, still no error codes, So I let the car cool and then take it out on a 8 mile drive, keeping the revs up, motorway and dual carriage way driving, little bit of stop start too. No problem, apart from it feeling like rubbish to drive like they all do, Brought it back to garage, charge £30 for diagnostics.
The chap goes away with his car and 40 mins later, comes back explaining that a new problem has popped up, the speedo has decided to intermittently work/not work!
