Peugeot 106 clutch nightmare! :)

Two hours to get the damn thing out then 5 hours struggling to get it back in, and still could not get it back on. always something catching, or at the wrong angle. I told the guy he had no chance doing it with a poxy jacked up car! At the very least you need the vehicle on stands back and front, so you can sit under the car to give yourself some leverage to mangle that damn gearbox off then back on again, at some impossible dangle angle.

Gonna lend him my stands tomorrow. But i think i'll be out doing something easier like climbing Everest.

Oh for the days of rear wheel drive, and the 1 hour clutch change on the drive way!

Austin Maxi must be the easiest clutch change, the hardest part was taking the battery box off. Everything else done standing up at the front of the car.

Tbh, it's only about an hour for the Pug MA box once you get used to doing them, they're pretty light so easy to manhandle in and out.

We had a Peugot 406,they are one of the most misbegotten pigs to work on you can imagine. A Renault we had was just as bad. Thats French cars for you.

Bring back the early Astra that could be changed on the road side with the car on the floor in 20 mins.

Started to get harder when they fitted a 5th gear but was still doable in less than 30 mins.

Easiest clutch I ever did was a Nissan 100A Cherry. I was dreading it and when I eventually did it from the Haynes Manual it took me 45 minutes. I reckon you could have got it down to 30 minutes if you were in a hurry. A lot of front wheel drive cars you can disconnect one shaft at the wheel and lift the engine then get enough room with the gearbox and mount unbolted.

I find entirely the opposite tbh, everything is usually easy to get to, they don't do the ford/vauxhall/rover trick of bolting 6 different brackets together to make an engine mount that half the belts run though, or make track rods without spanner flats, or captive nuts inside a box section held on with two tack welds.....

How about the citroen ones where the release bearing is on the pressure plate and you have to align the bearing up to the clutch fork as you put the gearbox in.
And just to make it that little bit harder they only give you four or five small slots to get any where near it, then you need a nice long screwdriver!

What engine size was that? Did one recently on a 106GTi and found it pretty straight forward.
