Have you seen what we have to pay Bob? (like, over £1 a litre, or $10 a gall!!!)
Someone remind me how much of our petrol/diesel price is tax....
You're right though, it is a good incentive to live nearer to work.

Annoying I know but even if they do cut the tax on fuel they'll just grab it back somewhere else.

then it's going to be the average working guy who's going to have to stump up the cash. Unfortunately the motorist is an easy target and 'being green' is a great get out of jail card to justify ripping us off

Another big problem is China and India being hogs and taking it all. Don't forget all that plastic junk coming out of China, computers, tv's, wall mart bags, toys, resin yard furniture, everything now days is plastic. Where does plastic come from? Well lets see, oil. Refiners have a choice make gasoline for x amount of dollars or make plastic pellets and resins for more money to ship to China to ship back to us in plastic junk that we use for awhile then discard in the trash. I know there is more and no answer anytime soon...Bob

Bob - i'm not having a go - we in the UK are little better and still buy as many plastic throw away products as we can. We just tend to own smaller cars, and mostly have no air-con.

Funny, I'm hankering to get my V8 mustang going again as it gets 26mpg hwy. Better than my 6-cyl Jeep (17mpg). That is if I can keep my foot off the pedal. Stomp on it and the speedo and gas gauge quickly pass each other going opposite directions
The state of GA suspended taxes on gas when it was well over $3.50 / gallon. Will probably do again.

It always makes me laugh shenion, when Im on my annual trip to Utah there will be a car park full of SUVs and F150s I will pull up in my 92 legacy (subaru) which I keep at my brothers, If we get a sizable dump of snow when Im out, Its only the subaru's moveing by the time i pick the car up from the car park(sorry lot), the car parks
awash with spining and sliding trucks..... They just love an English *****r pulling up and asking them if they need a tow....

I hate SUV's although I have one (techinally the Jeep is not an SUV as it has no cup holders). People think having 4WD make up for the fact that they are clueless on how to drive in snow. They are just big gas guzzlers that make the smog here worse.
Pickup trucks are useless in snow. No weight on back wheels. I like the subaru's my brother had a forrester. Nice and small with 4WD.
Funny, there was a car chase here on the news that lasted 2 hours. Big Ford Explorer. At one point, it crashed through a concrete barracade to get away.
The next day, Ford dealers sold out of Explorers

I drive a 1996 GEO Metro @ 42 mpg so i am almost doing my part. I also drive 80 miles t/f work and i can't move yet...Bob
I'm even more from the land of big SUV's out west. I have 4 vehicles but only use the gas guzzlers on occasion since I bought my Prius. I have a Jeep that gets 9mpg (very large tires, used primarily for the trail). A SUV that gets 11mpg on Premium fuel, a diesel pickup that gets about 20mpg (dual rear wheels), and my little manly Prius that's currently averaging 53.5mpg. I drive the Jeep offroad primarily, the SUV when I want to have a bit of fun with it's 420hp, the truck when I'm towing my large trailer full of other offroad toys... and my Prius to work everyday. Yeah, I have a lot of gas guzzlers but I keep telling myself that I'm still doing my part because when they're sitting in the garage while I'm driving the Prius it's one (or three) less gas guzzler someone else could be driving on the road. I suppose the flip to this is if no one would buy them in the first place the manufacturers wouldn't build them... but I'm sticking with story A.
