"Perkins" Generators on FB Marketplace?

Perkins in my opinion went down hill after the P6, the Perkins Primer 4cyl was ok ish, but 15 years ago genuine Perkins spares were made of soft cheese, and stupidly expensive.

If I was looking I'd look for something Kubota based.

Indeed they are…. Now available as the cat c0.7 and c1.1 in 3 cyl flavour. I had a 4500hr one that was still going well.

Shame the one in my ford 1210 has no compression and I can’t find rings for it….

We run about 20 of the 404d-22 4 cylinder one's in weidermann loaders and twin pump pressure washers.Several are over 10,000hrs. I've only ever rebuilt one and that got cooked with no coolant.

Although they say Perkins engines Peterborough on the plate, iam sure they are made in Japan.

p6 sounds nice but was a pig to start in a hard winter. had to be towed all around the farm yard snorting ether ! couldnt hold a candle to an L4 fordson conversion ploughing with the excess fuel button tied in .

Perkins did have a few strange alliances. Mazda was one. A range of smaller 3ltr ish diesels and some six pots made by Mazda under a Perkins licence. I cant knock Perkins, the phasers in my Massey tractors have proven to be bomb proof, one is on 15,000 hours.

I had a 3 litre Mazda/Perkins engine in a Land Rover. Excellent engine.

Another thing to remember. Perkins make engines, NOT generators, just like Briggs & Stratton do NOT make mowers.

I would have a Kubota or Yanmar (better) engine over a Perkins any day. For bigger, Isuzu.

One in my 1220 is working well and I keep thinking it could do with more power when I use it and I've got an LD28 which was crap in the Sandringham but would probably work well in the 1220

With a Perkins the country of manufacture is in the serial number.

There's a lot of Chinese equipment out in North Africa these days...

But the prices they're willing to pay for them are very much reflective of their quality expectations, and there's often an insistence that if they're getting Chinese equipment then they're paying in local currency for a unit that's been landed and customs cleared with the supplier taking all the risk.

When I was working down africa way….it wasn't uncommon to see the barrow boys delivering such things from china like generators. You could tell when a new container of tat had arrived as the lookie lookie boys would have new stock down the centre of the traffic ques.

If the £1500 units are anything like the £5k Hyundai units dont bother.

Had loads of trouble with mine. Seller useless, Hyundai service center just as bad.

In the 6Kva range I would look at the Pramac P6000s.
Not cheap but has a gen L100 engine & good for 2-4000 hours before you get issues.
Most issue are easy / cheap to fix.

I purchased one of these 2019, I knew it was not a\Perkins and no where near 26KVA 5 if lucky but it was cheap as a stand by for the house. Ran a few times for test and a couple of times during power cuts, went test it a few days back and it ran then the voltage dropped to about 90 volts so I got a new AVR that worked for a short time then the engine bogged down and the AVR blew again. Not sure yet if just cheap AVR or if shorted coils. Have another AVR on order from China and will check coils at that time as the new AVR from ebay could itself have been a Chinese knock off. Out of interest I sent some photographs to Perkins in Peterborough with a letter telling them bout these people and Perkins did not even bother to answer my letter.
