paypal wont load

I usually sort out my own internet/computer problems, so it rather embarassing for me to have to ask, but this is driving me mad and costing me time and money. My paypal pages will not load with internet explorer or firefox, at best thast take ages litterally 10 or 15 minutes, even then if i try to click on another page inside paypal it probably will hang again.

The really weird thing is that Opera (another browser for you non techies) will work ok, it accesses Paypal reasonably quickly, but i cant use that as it for some unkown reason refuses to print out any Paypal address lables sent to the printer from Opera (both IE and firefox will send and print lables from Paypal fine on the very rare ocassions i can get them to work)

Please can anyone help me its driving me round the twist!

PS I use Vista.
PPS it was ok till about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Try going into "internet options" in "tools" menu in IE and clicking "delete" about half way down, in the window below that pops up:

Click on all but the "delete passwords" and "delete all..." buttons to clear the caches and files...

In firefox try "tools" and "clear private data" and select like pictured below:

Click "clear private data now" to clear the firefox caches too...


Could be a dodgy cookie or cached page, happens to me every now and again...

I kicked myself after reading Om's reply as this was what i should have tried first. My old age must be setting in. Annoyingly and very strangely this did appear to work for me for one evening, then today the same again. so i dunno whther it did work or was just a flook!? arghhhh

Oh well, glad it's working again

I think multiple browsers can link to the same "temporary" stores but create the same files in diiferent dates, the error caused merely prevents the browser your using deleting one and replacing the other......

Have you tried the search for tmp files? and then delete them?
Besides that...vista sucks!

Hi m8,, Have you tried upgrading IE, sounds like it is in the core if it is doing it with IE and Firefox.

I get poor formatting in paypal pages but if I press refresh they all settle down and images load fine.
Try logging in and if slow press refresh, it may say it has to repost form data say yes or what ever the positive answer is.

I have the latest versions of both IE and firefox as well as updated Windows vista. when im in paypal (if im lucky enough to get inside) it will usually just stop or hang and refreshing does nothing at all. i am at a total loss to know whats casuing it. ?

Suspicious you may have some infection, have you done a full virus scan recently, full malware scan, updated all protection software etc?

If you do an nslookup paypal.com (from command prompt)

This is what you should get...

Try typing (or copy paste)
66.211.169.2 or 66.211.169.65 into your address bar.

Press Ctrl F5 when looking at the paypal page in IE. (hard refresh basiclly the same as clearing you cache but per site and quicker)
Reboot your router.
Is you AV upto date?
Run Malwarebytes anti malware just in case.

Got any similar probs with other sites? Wonder if it's a slow connection and SSL makes that apparent - anything with "https" is encrypted and a lot slower to browse. 'My ebay' or internet banking will be over https fr'instance. Better at different times of day? e.g. early morning could be better if it's broadband, less users contending for the bandwidth maybe.

Clearing the cache, in FF it's Ctrl-Shift-Del.
Although as said the fact that FF and IE are affected suggests something common to both, rather than their individual caches. Which points to connection, firewall etc.

Thanks for the help guys much appreciated. i tried inputting the nslookup into the command prompt and all seems fine except i got a slightly different

and when i input the dotted decimals in place of the url neither of them wil work either, in other words just the same.

as for infections, that was my first thought. I have AVG as a virus scanner that is live all the time as well as running a schedule scan every 24 hours. I use AdAware and i use Commodo internet security checker as well as the Windows firewall. i have also tried the trend micro online scanner.

nslookup paypal.com

The other bits are me.

The addresses

66.211.169.2

66.211.169.65

are the ip addresses I got as a response, you should get the same reply.

If you then put the ip addresses in the address/url bar you should be taken to paypal.com.

Try again and let us know.

hi again, yes nslookup paypal.com is what i entered. and if i enter 66.211.169.2 or

66.211.169.65 into internet explorer then they both take me to paypal. or at least they try to but they wont fully load. same as if i enter "www.paypal.com"

OK,
There's a problem with your DNS server or cached DNS addresses.

May be your ip address is failing?
It's so difficult as there are quite a few things it could be.
Try this and who is your ADSL supplier?

Have you switched off your router for at least 5 mins, switch back on let it get logged in/connected then start your computer?

Also from the command line type/copy paste this ...

ipconfig /flushdns

Try the paypal site again.

that last trick seems to have worked great. At least i could log into paypal with ie anyway. Wondering why Opera was ok though ? Many thanks for the help.

Glad to hear it.

I'd still have a look at your ADSL supplier. They may have introduced a new (additional) DNS server. They don't usually announce these.

If not a new one they will have more than 1 and you may be pointing at one that's got an old history, or the one everyone defaults to.

the dam thing has gone haywire again, so im going to try it again. Also since i have done this my BT vision on demand movies/tv has stopped working as i have gone under the 1.5mb line speed threshold! This is super slow as i usually get 5 to 6mb. I am going to try it again. When i try the ipconfig /flushdns i get a message saying something about "requires elevation" is that a wierd way of saying i should log on as admin? because i cant see how to do it here. I can usually right click whatever i need to run on admin level and get an option to run it at admin level, cant do that with the command line though. Or have i got completely the wrong end of the stick ?
