Pay by phone parking.

Can anyone in town explain how this works. I mostly drive London dropping clients off or picking them up. However. on the odd occasion I have to park whilst I wait for them. I prefer on street parking as the underground car park spaces dont cater for anything bigger than a hatchback. I then charge the client accordingly. No problem. The problem arises when I try to pay. No cash payment, no credit card payment so pay by mobile as its simple. Except its not. There seem to be so many different phonepay paymobile paybyphone systems and every time I try to register on the mobile it says theres a problem, could not register etc. Q do I have to register with all these companies? if so how?

I have and do use Ringo - just register debit card and then you can pay by phone - there is a menu to guide you through each time you park.

Ringo is just one of the operators so they only cover the car parks that they manage. If you park in a regular place then it works really well.

It gets complicated when the likes of Westminster brand Ringo differently so you look on the sign and only twig the connection when it is Ringo's txt number that your phone already knows. I have Ringo and PayByPhone which seems to cover most places.

I use Ringo too - quick, easy and it saves your parking history. If you're not sure just put the location number in, if it's not Ringo-enabled it will say invalid location.

I use one down here in Torbay. Just don't forget to stop it when your parking is finished . Luckily I got a text 23 hours and 55 mins after starting it. Capped at £10. Hate to think how much that would have been in London

I have never seen one like that, round here on street it 2 or 4 hrs. max sessions, in theory there is no topping up but I often do it and have not got ticketed............... yet.

Be careful to use the correct app for the relevant car park, there's a few that have very similar names and logos but are different.
The Mrs got caught by that, put the time in, put the car park number in and off she went....
Couple of weeks later she gets a parking fine.
Turns out she used the wrong app, and the car park number for that app was in Devon.

It's ParkMobile down here. They have put the prices for parking up again, but the app still uses the old prices. It charges a 30p fee and bills you at the end of the month.
I usually find it useful when you don't know how long you will be (I.e saves having to pop back to top up meter or lose money when what you were doing was quicker than you thought). Plus I've not got to bugger about with change ( handy when it's lashing down)
Just got to remember to turn the damn thing off

I've made a sticker I'm going to put on the back of the sun visor. Just got to remember to pull the sun visor down before leaving the van........
